Energy use and sustainability are issues that transcend municipal or county borders. As such, development initiatives in these fields work best when coordinated across as broad a region as possible. To that end, the American Solar Transformation Initiative (ASTI) team works to deploy the Solar Roadmap in a regionally unified manner wherever possible, which relies on partners with strong roots in a given area.

The Central New York Regional Planning and Development Board (CNYRPDB) is one such partner helping to deploy the Solar Roadmap. Based in Syracuse, the CNYRPDB serves five counties with a total population of 792,000. The organization has been involved in several energy management initiatives in the area, recently as a contractor to the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) in the Climate Smart Communities program, and as an awardee under the U.S. Environmental Projection Agency’s Climate Showcase Communities program.

Leveraging their strong reputation and connection to the region, the CNYRPDB will be helping to ensure the success of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Rooftop Solar Challenge II initiative and the Solar Roadmap in the Syracuse area over the next 2 years.
